Here are a few thoughts about the experiences I have had:
SAMSUNG
My internship at Samsung Telecommunications America was more than just a job or an internship or sitting at a desk all day. My experience at Samsung has been one of the most rewarding things I have done, not just because of all of the skills I have acquired and digital marketing related information I have learned, but also because of the people I was able to meet. While at Samsung, I have been able to build relationships and make connections with some of the most creative, bright, and fun people in the industry.
As the Social Media Intern, I was able to get a hands-on view of how social media and digital marketing work independently and as part of an integrated team. I had various jobs throughout the summer that included organizing and managing the social content calendar, communicating between Samsung’s internal departments and with its agencies, writing copy, helping with social skins like the Facebook cover photo, and, my two favorites, helping with a photo shoot for content and reviewing the user experience for an app at a concert venue.
Although all of these responsibilities have helped me understand and thoroughly grasp what goes into running social media accounts, I learned the most from just observing people. My favorite part about being in the Samsung office was just watching and listening to people as they worked and communicated with each other. I learned so much about being in the digital field just by being a part of meetings, phone calls, reading over briefs, and interacting with the talented people at Samsung and its agencies.
It is hard to explain in words the opportunities I had and the exciting things I got to experience, but my internship with Samsung has opened my eyes to what hard work, dedication, curiosity, and passion can do in the advertising world. My first summer internship also showed me what I am capable of, and I know that with future internships and jobs I will work my hardest in order to accomplish my goals that my experience at Samsung helped me to dream.
PMG
Working at PMG was not only a great way to gain experience in Digital Marketing, but it was also an opportunity to be a part of a small, personable agency. Even though PMG is a relatively newer and smaller agency, I was able to learn from some very passionate, humorous, and truly kind people, as well as work on some major accounts.
Looking back on my time as a Digital Marketing and Video Intern, it is hard to believe I was able to learn and work on as many things as I did. Each day I was able to work on different tasks such as write copy and upload ads onto AdWords, annotate online catalogs for J.Crew and Lafayette 148 New York, or do demographic research for Madewell.
Again, one of my favorite parts of my internship was meeting people who are passionate about what they do and who are very willing to help teach students like me. I was welcomed instantly by the whole agency, and I truly appreciate the time I was able to spend with such a dedicated and fun team.
